Productions presents the release of Andrea Brachfeld's Zoho CD Lady
of the Island
November 20 at Zinc Bar NY. Sets are at 8 and 10 PM. Flutist,
composer, and arranger Andrea
Brachfeld
is a graduate of The High School of Music and Art and Manhattan
School of Music. Over the past 30 years she has recorded more than a
dozen CD's with many artists including Wayne
Wallace, Bobby Carcassés, Africando, Oscar Hernandez (Spanish Harlem
Orchestra) and Timbalaye
among others. Downbeat magazine referred to Andrea as "one of
the finest jazz flutists around." She has twice been the
recipient of the Latin New York Music Award as a flutist. She has
performed with Dave
ValentÃn, Nestor Torres, Tito Puente, and Ray Barretto
among others. She received the Chico O'Farrill Lifetime Achievement
Award from Latin Jazz USA in Oct. 2006 and was most recently awarded
the "Pionero Award" in 2010 for her contribution to Latin
music. She has appeared with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra as a soloist
performing her own compositions as well as those of Mike Longo,
longtime musical director for Dizzy Gillespie. She is currently
performing with her own group Phoenix Rising. Lady
of the Island,
her latest CD, being premiered tonight, marks her move from Latin
jazz into straight-ahead jazz.

her up is a first-rate group of jazz musicians: Bill
O'Connell on piano, Andy
Eulau on bass, Kim
Plainfield on drums, Chembo
Corniel on congas and
percussion, Todd Bashore
on altosax, David Weiss
on trumpet, and special guest Steve Turre
on trombone.
